Crochet Mandalas Pattern – Two in One!
Fringe is in this year! Would you like to up-date the look of your favorite scarf or shawl?
I took an antique design and modernized it by adding picot points, and then crocheted it around three sides of my shawl.
I used medium weight yarn with a J Hook( 6 mm for our friends up north and across the pond)
Picot Point: ch 4, sl st in 3rd ch from hook, ch 1.
- Attach yarn to the corner. I just happened to have some left-over yarn that matched, but a contrasting color would work as well. Ch 7.
2. Work a picot point:
3. y/o 5 times, insert hook into next st:
4. draw up a loop, (y/o, draw through 2 loops on hook) 6 times. Note that you have to pull through 2 loops a little further than you are used to with dc and tr stitches, or you will end up with too much extra yarn at the top. Here is what it looks like after you pull through 2 loops 3 times:
Repeat 2 – 4 for each fringe in each st around your scarf or shawl. When you get to the corner, work 2 fringes in each of the 3 corner points:
Continue around 3 or 4 sides, fasten off, and weave in ends.
Pin it on your ironing board to block it, if you want. If you like a casual look, skip this step. Cover with a cloth and press on low heat, taking care not to burn or melt your yarn.
Put it on and enjoy!
